Our Story
Our story — a relatable one
I’m Darren, founder of Billyhops. This is my wife Daena and our blue Burmese, Indy. We live in Sydney, in a cosy Bondi apartment we love. Three years ago, when Indy joined our home, the houseproud couple we were began to slowly unravel. It didn’t take long before she’d taken over the apartment with all her furniture. And like any human obsessed with their cat, we accepted it for what it was.
Aha moment!
It wasn’t until we hosted friends over for dinner and tried moving Indy’s massive cat tower out the way that it clicked. There had to be a better way. Why couldn’t it fold away when we didn’t need it? And why couldn’t something so bulky actually be useful in a small space?
No easy task
It was time to bring the idea to life. So we went straight to 4Design, the top design studio in Australia, and teamed up with Robbie and Ben to make it happen.
The challenge was to create a beautiful design that folds easily, is safe to use, lightweight enough to carry, compatible with modular accessories, and most importantly, loved by cats.
Our design journey
Over 18 months and countless prototypes, we reworked the Billyhops bench tower to be lighter to carry, quicker to fold, and sturdy enough to last for years. Every detail was designed to make setup feel effortless, blend naturally into your home, and give your cat a safe place to climb and rest.
